KOCHI:  Even though there is no sign of the 100 new KSRTC services promised to Kochiites under the previous State budget, the KSRTC is readying alternative parking facilities for its existing buses in the anticipation of the new arrivals. The work on the new bus terminal, alongside the boat repairing yard of the Kerala State Water Transport Department, is nearing completion in Thevara. However, officials with the KSRTC still are saying that the new buses will arrive soon. “The KSRTC had given the order for the manufacturing of the buses and we have been informed that the buses will arrive soon,” said Assistant Transport Officer (ATO), P K Satheesh Kumar.Since the Ernakulam depot is already filled to the brim and struggles to accommodate the buses at night, the KSRTC has been having plans to shift all of its 39 city services to Thevara. “With the completion of the new terminal, all of the city services will operate from Thevara. This will ease the congestion in the Ernakulam depot. Moreover, the Thevara depot already has the facilities required for the terminal. Buses regularly enter the depot to punch in the time and there is a station master’s office to monitor the services. Other facilities required for a fully-functional bus terminal like ticket counter, workshop and the like, will also be coming soon in the 5-acre land,” added Satheesh Kumar.Currently, the buses which cannot be accommodated in the Ernakulam depot are parked along MG road at night. KSRTC also has plans to shift some of its services to Vyttila Mobility Hub.
