THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Private Medical College Management Association (KPMCMA) has decided to give 50 per cent seats to the government.
This was decided at a meeting convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy with medical college managements here on Tuesday. However, the InterChurch Council controlled Kerala Christian Professional College Managements have asked two more days time to take a final decision. As per the formula put forward by the managements' association, 20 per cent seats for economically backward students will have a fees structure of Rs 25,000. These seats include those reserved for the OBC and the Dalit communities. For the remaining 30 per cent seats, the fees structure will be Rs 1,35,000. The fees structure for 35 per cent seats in management quota will be Rs 5.5 lakh. A higher fee structure will be implemented for 15 per cent seats in NRI quota.

Managements' association, however, took a stand that even if the Inter Church Council had an agreement similar to the one signed by them, they should also have to give a commitment that they would respect the decisions of the state government.

Association president George Paul told reporters that they had informed the government the position of the Christian managements that cross subsidy would not be allowed.

On the PG admissions, George Paul said that they had apprised the Chief Minister that as per the agreement with the previous government it was the prerogative of the managements to fix the fee for government quota seats
