Jumbo calf found dead

BARIPADA: An elephant calf was found dead inside Similipal reserve forest on Saturday. The carcass was found near Ashanbani village under Pithabata range of Baripada forest division. Forest officials said the calf might have died due to prolonged illness. DFO Bijay Kumar Panda said the veterinary doctors failed to treat the calf as it was surrounded by four pachyderms.He added the blood sample and viscera of the calf will be sent to OUAT Veterinary College, Bhubaneswar, to find the cause of the death.The calf was a part of a herd comprising five pachyderms which had strayed into a paddy field near Ashanbani village.
