Jolt for CPM, party splits in Mundur

Giving a serious jolt to the CPM, like in the case of Onchiyam,  the party has split in Mundur with thousands of party cadre owing allegiance to the VS faction attending a dissident janakeeya convention organised there.

The split will be formalised when the  dissident leaders are expelled from the party in the coming days.

Mundur, falling within the Malampuzha constituency, has been a CPM stronghold for long.

The dissidents arrived in jeeps and carried CPM flags. Mundur area secretary P A Gokuldas, who was demoted to the Kongad local committee on Monday, announced a parallel 19-member area committee at the convention.  The local and branch committees will be constituted by September 20.

Gokuldas is the new area secretary of the parallel committee.

There are seven members in the committee who had walked out of the meet on Monday convened by district secretary C K Rajendran to report the action taken against Gokuldas.

Gokuldas said that his committee would adhere to the diktats of the state and central leadership of the CPM but was only against a coterie in the district leadership.

He would live and die

as a Communist. The dissident cadre had carried communist flags since it was not the property of some individuals.

Gokuldas said that he had suffered a lot of humiliation in the name of an inquiry by the party into the suicide of his wife.

“Though the CPM constitution gives freedom to its cadre to speak at party forums, any opinion aired by him was stamped as factionalism. Similarly, on many occasions, some leaders would publicly rebuke me at party forums,” Gokuldas said.
