CUTTACK: The Justice A.S.Naidu Commission of inquiry into the alleged police assault on a judicial magistrate at Rourkela in April this year, on Saturday held its sitting at Cuttack. The Commission examined three persons Sahil Khan, Mehfuj Alam and Jossef Tigga, who had filed affidavits about the incident.  Pursuant to the public notice issued by the Commission 47 statements of affidavits have been received by the Commission. The inquiry proceedings would be a public affair and continue on a day-to-day basis till October 29. Additional Government advocates Bikram Nayak and V.Narsingh appeared for the State Government along with advocate BP Tripathy for Rourkela Bar Association, P.K.Nayak for IIC Udit Nagar police station, Rourkela, S.N.Pujari  and  S.C.Mohapatra for the then JMFC Rourkela Arun Kumar Patnaik and cross examined the three witnesses.   The Justice Naidu Commission is probing the circumstances and the persons behind the attack on JMFC Patnaik inside the Uditnagar Police Station. Patnaik has alleged that he had forcibly been taken by the patrolling police, led by Inspector Sadanand Pujari, and was abused and assaulted in the Udit Nagar police station in April this year. The issue had led to a Statewide lawyers’ strike demanding action against the police officers.
