'I am an IPS/IAS/IFS Officer': Noida Woman Arrested for Spoof Calls to Trap Cops
Police said that the accused, a failed UPSC candidate, posed as fake IAS, IPS, and IFS officers, using various tactics to impersonate senior government officials

The Greater Noida Police have arrested a woman identified as Zoya Khan, for pressurizing police officers by impersonating as IAS, IPS or IFS officers. The accused woman used to threaten police officers and common people through spoof calls.

It has been reported that Khan had called and threatened the SHO of Sector 142 police station of Noida a few days ago. She had pressurized the SHO to plead in the case in her favour by impersonating herself as a senior police officer.

In another instance, a person named Abhishek Jain was called from the number of Anti Corruption Bureau and threatened. Khan threatened him that if he pleaded in the case, he would be implicated in a false case and sent to prison.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shakti Mohan Awasthi said that after the arrest, when the police took Zoya on remand and started their investigation, it was found that she had used a server from Dubai for spoof calling.

Call spoofing is a technique in which another person’s number is misused without their knowledge. Through spoofing technology, the caller changes the caller ID so that it seems that the call is from a trusted number.

Khan had also misled many other police officers on several occasions. She used to talk in a male voice through the MagicCall app as well, the DCP said.

Khan had also demanded police escort by posing as a fake IAS or IPS in Noida, Gurugram and Meerut. Cases have been registered against her at all three places.

Police said that the accused had appeared for the UPSC exam earlier. After not getting selected, she started threatening people by posing as fake IAS, IPS and IFS officers. She adopted various tactics to impersonate as senior government officials.

During the police investigation, the name of an IAS officer has also come up, which is being investigated. Zoya Khan is currently in police custody. She is being questioned so that more information can be extracted to solve the case.
