Hundreds of cadre belonging to various political parties staged protests at several points in the city condemning the attitude of the Central government in its firm decision to go ahead with the commissioning of Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP).

Two MTC buses plying on that route — Route no 11(H) Iyyappanthangal-Broadway and 40(A) Avadi-Anna Square — were stoned by miscreants from the crowd.

Police sources said that the entire protest had been video taped and they would be able to identify the miscreants involved in stone pelting.

Fisherfolk from seven associations attempted to block traffic at Kamarajar Salai junction in front of the DGP Office. They were allowed to meet DGP K Ramanujam. They submitted a petition seeking action against policemen and officials involved in the firing and lathi-charge.  Naam Tamilar Iyakkam members blocked traffic on Poonamallee High Road for about 15 minutes while another set of members blocked traffic on GST Road in Pallavaram.
