New Delhi: Denmark's Henrik Ehlers was on Wednesday appointed as the Umpires Manager for the next edition of the Hockey India League (HIL), starting January 22 next year.
Ehlers is currently serving as the member of the EHF Appointments Committee at the European Hockey Federation and an FIH International Umpires Manager since 2010.
Speaking on the appointment, Hockey India CEO Elena Norman said, "Henrik Ehlers is an established name in the field and fraternity of hockey internationally and we are glad to have him on board with us for the third edition of the Hockey India League.
"With his level expertise and experience, both in and out of the field, I am certain that the league is just going to get better and better. I would like to congratulate and welcome Henrik Ehlers on board."
Devoting 13 years to hockey from 1996-2006 as an umpire, Ehlers' on-field experience observes a total of 178 international matches.
Ehlers has umpired in four Olympics (Atlanta, Sydney, Athens and Beijing, three World Cups (Utrecht 1998, Kuala Lumpur 2002, Germany 2006), three Champions Trophy (1997 in Adelaide, 1998 in Lahore and 2000 in Amsterdam).
Some prominent tournaments, leagues and matches as an Umpires Manager includes the 2010 Euro Hockey League Round 1 (Barcelona), 2011 FIH Champions Challenge II (Lile), 2012 FIH Champions Trophy I (Melbourne), 2014 FIH Men's World Cup (The Netherlands), to name a few.
