BANGALORE: The High Court on Thursday posted the hearing of a petition by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa challenging his indictment in the illegal mining report by Lokayukta till August 29 for orders. The division bench comprising Justices K L Manjunath and H S Kempanna posted the petition after hearing Supreme Court advocate Ram Jethmalani, who is appearing for Yeddyurappa.During the hearing senior counsel Ram Jethmalani, who appeared for Yeddyurappa, denied the charges that mining lease was granted to South West Mining Company by the former CM stating that the lease was granted way back in 2007.Without naming the then chief minister, the counsel said, “It was somebody else who was the CM at that time.” When the court pointed out to the U V Singh report stating that it needs to look into what the report says, Jethmalani said, “In the entire document, there is no mention of the former CM, Justice Hegde (former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde) has been misled,” he said. When the court pointed out that several cheques were issued to the Prerana Trust which runs to `50 crore — which exceeds the norms for donations to any trust — the counsel submitted that it was just `30 crore as the cheques have the same number.
