BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) Task Force Station located on the third floor inside its complex caught fire on Saturday. All important documents relating to the BBMP Task Force were charred to ashes. At about 8.30 pm, the BBMP gang men  who  were on duty saw smoke coming out from one of the buildings on the BBMP premises. The Fire Department was immediately informed. The Fire officials said that their control room received the message by 8.40pm. Immediately two fire tenders left for the BBMP office. Later, five more tenders were reportedly rushed to spot. Two fire men led the team with their ‘Breathing Operators’ and the rest of the team followed. As the fire was getting intense, the fire officials first stopped the rapidly spreading fire from the BBMP Task Force office which was almost burnt. The task force office was right in the middle of the Common Computing Centre and  Audit Room on the third floor. The fire was under control by 9.30 pm. As all the rooms were closed, the fire officials had to break all the locks to enter the rooms. BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah was the first to inspect  the spot at 9.41 pm. He lost his cool as basic lighting facility, like torches and batteries, were not provided by his officials. He started his inspection from the Common Computing Centre. Except the thermacoal on the  ceiling, not much was damaged in the room. The files which were piled up in the room were not damaged, expect some, as the water used for extinguishing the fire entered the room from the adjacent Task Force room. Siddaiah immediately called on his officials, who were present there to shift the documents. “Only the documents relating to daily administration were burnt. Those relating to scams are safe at the ground floor and first floor.  More security is needed to guard this.  The fire accident may be a well planned one,” he said adding that there is no chance of short circuit as the Main Circuit Breaker will be switched off once the office closes.  “A thorough enquiry will be ordered and the guilty will not be spared,” he said. When TNIE spoke to Regional Fire Officer of East Range B N Manjunath he said, “No special measures were taken by the BBMP. The building is not fully fire equipped. ” He said electronic devices in the Computer Section were still on and they switched them off.  Mayor Sharadamma alsosuspected a foul play.
