Acting on a writ petition filed by one Bibhuti Bhusan Dash of Nimapara in Puri district, a division bench comprising Chief Justice V Gopalagowda and Justice S K Mishra has directed the Puri Collector to consider his representation and grant ex gratia under the Disaster Management Act for death of his cows in a fire accident.
According to the petitioner, fire broke out in his cow shed in August last year as a result of which two cows died.
He stated before the court that after the mishap, he had submitted fire and death certificates to the Kakatpur Tehsildar and requested for ex gratia as per guidelines issued by the Government.
But since nothing was done by the authorities, he approached the High Court. Taking up his case, the court has directed the Collector to consider it and grant ex gratia under the law.
