Withdrawal of the case is in the hands of the investors,” the DRO told journalists here. When asked about a claim by the firm’s lawyer that the officials and members of a dominant caste closed the farm as the owner was an Arunthathiyar, he said, “The firm’s GM contacted the police only after the cellphone of the owner was found switched off after many depositors picketed his office at Perundurai.”Police registered a case against the firm owner only after several depositors lodged complaints, alleging that their dues were not settled. There was no ulterior motive, the DRO said, while adding, “The contention that action was taken against him only because of his caste is also wrong. Our concern is only the poor depositors.” He also dismissed claims that the firm could not settle the investors’ dues as its accounts were frozen owing to the I-T department’s action.“We have found that the firm has just Rs 22 lakh in its accounts. If it has enough funds, let the owner come out openly and settle the dues of investors,” he said.Meanwhile, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) police received many more complaints against emu firms in the district on Thursday too.
