EC prohibits exit polls between November 11 and December 4
The ECI notified the period between the first day of poll in Chhattisgarh and the last day in poll-bound Delhi and in bypoll-bound Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.

Chennai: The Election Commission of India on Friday notified the period between November 11 and December 4 prohibiting conducting any exit poll and publishing or publicising in print or electronic media in the poll-bound and bypoll-bound states, including Tamil Nadu during the period. The bypoll to Yercaud (ST) Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu will be held on December 4.

The ECI notifies the period between 7 am on November 11, the first day of poll in Chhattisgarh and 5.30 pm and December 4, the last day in poll-bound Delhi and in bypoll-bound Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.

It prohibited conducting any exit poll and publishing or publicising in print or electronic media or dissemination in any other manner whatsoever, the result of any exit poll in connection with the current elections to state Assemblies to Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Delhi and bypoll to Assemblies of Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, shall be prohibited, the Chief Electoral Officer said in a statement.

The ECI has further clarified that under Section 126(1)(b) of the RP Act, 1951, displaying any election matter including results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey, in any electronic media, would be prohibited during the period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for conclusion of poll in connection with aforesaid General Elections and bye-elections.
