The crowd started gathering from the afternoon unmindful of the scorching heat. By sunset, massive crowds were seen at all the spots where Jayalalithaa would address the people.A cultural troupe was dancing to the tunes of matinee idol MGR’s films, receiving warm applause. A popular hit song from the ‘Rickshawkaaran’, depicting a corrupt DMK rule and predicting its downfall elicited spontaneous applause even from youths.Just before the arrival of the AIADMK leader, a welcome song, describing her as a gold star and angel of the soil was played, even as percussion folk instruments, band music and crackers vied with one another to be heard. The sound of the big gathering overwhelmed everything, as she began her address. Huge crowds were seen along the way, to greet her wherever she went.
