New Delhi: The Delhi Police has admitted in the High Court that the eight people arrested in connection with the death of a policeman during the anti-rape agitation at India Gate are innocent. Constable Subhash Tomar had died while a crack down on agitators was on.

The eight accused had been charged with murder and rioting. But with a clean chit from the police, the charges are likely to be dropped. The hearing on dropping charges will take place on March 20.

Tomar was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on December 23, 2012 and died two days later due to the alleged injuries he received during the protests at India Gate for justice for the 23-year-old Delhi gangrape victim, who died on December 29 in a Singapore hospital.

A video footage showed Tomar collapsing at the India Gate during the protests against the gangrape of a 23-year-old girl in Delhi. He was immediately admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia, where he succumbed to his alleged injuries on December 25. The eight men, who were arrested had claimed that they were being framed by the police.
