KOCHI: It’s summer time and heavy foods only end up making you feel tired and drowsy. What is rightly in  vogue though are sandwiches and burgers. Not surprisingly, the city is seeing plenty of food festivals, where brunches, and other lighter foods are being served. One such is the ongoing Burger Festival at Cocoa Tree in The Avenue Regent. This year chef Joshua E V has introduced nine varieties of burgers. For the vegans, the veggie burger with veg patty, carmalised onion, mushrooms, tomatoes and cheese is a sure shot hit. “The veggie burger is a surprise package. Unlike other veg burgers, our veggie burger is crunchy,” says chef Joshua. Burgers garnished in cane baskets with German mozzarella cheese oozing out are sure to send your mouths watering. And if you happen to be a beef lover, then the chef’s favourite Bacon Club Burger and Barbecue Burger is the perfect filler for you. “For the barbecue burger fillet meat (soft meat) is used. And adding to the flavour are the barbecue sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and cheese,” adds Joshua. The burger fest which began on April 20 sees the maximum rush on the weekends and on holidays. “On normal days about 60-70 burgers sell but on weekends it goes above 100 and so,” says Jibson Bivera, food & beverage manager. Some other burgers to munch on are the Tenderloin Burger, Greek Lamb Burger and seafood lovers can have Fillet ‘O’ Fish. All burgers come with complimentary french fries. The scrumptious food fest also offers a variety of side dishes like fried cheese sticks, fish fingers and onion rings. After a heart filling burger session, to cool off, there is the snicker knocker shake made of choco sauce, snicker bars and milk. “Homemade lemonade is the new addition with lemon, frozen mint and guava,” adds Joshua. People who love chocolate can also go in for chocolate banana and peanut butter milkshake. The non-veg burgers are prized at ` 180 above and beverages at ` 75.
