BANGALORE: In a move that could irk BJP national leaders, particularly L K Advani, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Thursday demanded the party to project Gujarat CM Narendra Modi as the party’s prime ministerial candidate.Interestingly, Yeddyurappa’s statement came barely an hour after Modi changed his decision to boycott the party’s national executive meet following resignation of the latter’s bete noire Sanjay Joshi from the party. Speaking to reporters here, he said that Modi was a capable leader and had proved it with his good administration in Gujarat. This apart, he is the most popular leader. “Recent surveys have shown that many want to see Modi as prime minister. Hence, the party should project him as its prime ministerial candidate in the next general elections besides giving him proper place in the party hierarchy,” he added. When asked about Advani, who is also nurturing prime ministerial ambitions, Yeddyurappa said: “We cannot compare Modi with Advani who is doubtless the party’s tallest leader after Atal Behari Vajpayee. But Modi is popular.”When asked whether he was suggesting Modi is popular than Advani, Yeddyurappa said: “Now, people want him (Modi).” He also urged the party to discuss problems in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Karnataka and come up with solutions.
