Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffer Hussain Beigh resigned from his post on Saturday.
Beigh's decision comes two days after his party People's Democratic Party demanded he be stripped of the post along with Finance and Planning portfolios while it removed him as leader of the legislature group.
Beigh's announcement of his resignation at a press conference in Srinagar may pave the way for appointment of a new Deputy Chief Minister, for which post the PDP has already recommended Agriculture Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar.
"I don't know how it will play. They have played their game. Now it is for me to respond to that. I will request the Chief Minister that I be relieved. I will insist on it. Because otherwise there will be a collision between the Congress and the PDP which I will not like," he said.
