CHENNAI: Cashing in on the Aadi season, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation has introduced the annual Amman temple tour package. Minister for Tourism S Gokula Indira flagged off the first bus from the Tamil Nadu Tourism Complex in Chennai on Monday.The five-day tour package covering 108 Amman temples across the State is planned for twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. Almost all the important Amman temples in Tamil Nadu are part of the tour, which attracts women in large numbers.According to official TTDC sources, the tour package that started in 2005 has been receiving good patronage among the devotees, particularly the women, who account for about 80 per cent. “The package that commences from Kalikambal temple at Parrys in Chennai, includes important Amman temples like Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple, Samayapuram temple in Tiruchirapalli district and Punnai Nallur Mariamman temple at Thanjavur district,” the official added.While the fare for the tour package has been fixed as Rs 3,250 for the adults, it is Rs 2,500 for the children between the age group of four and ten, a press release said. Accommodation and guide charges are part of the package.TTDC Managing Director A Chittaranjan Mohandoss and tourism officials were present at the flagging off of the first bus of the season.
