Registering for an IMDb Account
Go to https://www.imdb.com/ and sign into your account. Click the button on the top right corner of the screen that says “Sign in.” If you're not a member yet, you can click on this button to create an account. As a registered member, you will be able to submit new titles, write reviews, create personalized watchlists, and post in discussions on the message board. None of your activity on IMDb will be tracked or reported on other sites without your permission.
“Create a New Account” if you’re not an IMDb member. Clicking this link will take you to a new page where you can input your personal information to become a registered member. Make sure you don't already have an existing IMDb account before you create a new one. If you register with your Facebook, Amazon, Google, or Apple account, IMDb will use the email you used to register for that site.
Fill in your personal details and submit the form. You'll be prompted to provide your full name, email address and a password of your choosing. Type in your info, then click “Create Your IMDb Account.” After that, you'll be able to submit new titles, add production and credit details, look at your contribution history and use other functions for members. You may be asked to confirm your registration before you can continue. Choose the option to “stay logged in” so you won't be forced to put in your information every time you visit the site.
Submitting New Film Titles for Consideration
Type the film title in the search bar to see if it’s already on IMDb. Use the search bar at the top of the homepage to scan for any existing titles or keywords related to the film you want to add. If you find the title in the results, there's no need to submit it. Otherwise, keep reading to fill out a new title information form. Enter both the film's international title and the title as it appears in the original language. If you were part of a film's production and you want to submit a listing, ask the director or producer to handle the process. This can prevent duplicate submissions that may be rejected.
Go to https://contribute.imdb.com/czone/. This link takes you directly to the Contributor page. If you need to get to the Contributor page from IMDb’s home page, click the “Menu” tab at the top left of the screen. Scroll down slightly and click the “Contributor Zone” link under the “Community” heading. As an IMDb contributor, you can add new titles (like movies, TV shows, etc.) and add trivia, quotes, release dates, and more on each title’s page.
Confirm that the title you submit meets IMDb’s eligibility guidelines. For a work to be eligible for inclusion in the database, it has to be “of general public interest.” Your title meets this requirement if it is or has been: Released in theaters Shown on TV Available on a streaming service (like Netflix or YouTube) Listed in the catalog of a video retailer (like Amazon) An online video A video game Accepted and shown in film festivals Made by a (now) renowned artist or someone of public interest You'll have to repeat this process every time you want to submit a new title.
Select the “How to Add a New Title” link. This link, along with other useful informational resources, is in the section entitled “Adding data to IMDb.” Clicking it will redirect you to a separate form you can fill out with relevant details about the new title.
Complete the title information form. The form will ask you for the title of the film, the type of media (“Film,” “Made for TV,” “Video Game,” etc.), its current status (“Released and screened,” “Not yet complete,” etc.), the year it was made, and your relation as a contributor (“producer/director/writer,” “member of the cast/crew,” etc.). Provide as much precise detail as you can in order to make the listing an authoritative resource. Type the title of the film in its original language, with the exact spelling as it appears in the title screen of the opening credits.
Go to the “Miscellaneous Link” section to prove your title is eligible. This section allows you to give supporting information that confirms that the title is in production or was released. In the “Miscellaneous Link” section, copy and paste a link in the box to one of these sources: Third-party news article Online TV schedule Link to title on online retailers (like Amazon) Mentions from reputable sources Link to title on streaming platform (like Netflix or YouTube) Trailer or behind-the-scenes video Production photos/stills
Confirming Your Film Title Submission
Click “Check these updates” and fill in any extra information. Make sure all information is complete and accurate to the best of your knowledge, then click “Check these updates” and fill in the boxes that appear. If you click “Check these updates” again and it returns to the same page, fill out the boxes highlighted in yellow or red. Once you’ve entered all the information and corrected any mistakes highlighted in yellow or red, click “Re-check these updates” and the boxes will turn green. Scan for spelling and capitalization mistakes and verify that you correctly entered all the required information. If the information you provide for the new title isn't accurate, your submission may be rejected outright.
Click the “Re-check these updates” button to submit your title. Once you submit the new title, it will be sent to the IMDb's title managers for review. If the info you submitted meets the submission guidelines, the new listing will appear on the website between 12 to 48 hours. Anyone can submit new titles to IMDb, but they have to be approved by the website's administrators before a listing is created.
Your new title submission will be approved within 1 to 7 days. Check your title’s submission status using your contributing history page. Contributions aren’t processed in the order they’re received—you can find specific information about MDb’s processing times on their page. When your submission has been approved, you'll receive confirmation in your account activity, as well as the email you registered with. You'll also receive a notice if your submission is rejected, which can happen if they’re unable to verify that it’s eligible to be listed. However, you can always submit it again so that IMDb’s editors re-examine it as a new submission.
