'He is a Good Strategist, Knows What to do': Ex-IND Opener Backs Gautam Gambhir to Succeed in Role as Team India Head Coach
A former Indian international suggested that Gautam Gambhir has the credentials to take up the Team India Head Coach role but remains uncertain on what he can deliver.

As the Indian team’s focus will be on the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, a former Indian cricketer shared his take on Gautam Gambhir being the front-runner to take over from Rahul Dravid as the Head coach of the side.

Gambhir’s stocks are currently on the rise having made a sensational return to the Kolkata Knight Riders and leading the franchise to the title, making him one who has won the IPL both as a player and as a mentor.

Speaking in an interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI), WV Raman believes that Gambhir has got the credentials to take over as the new head coach for the Indian team. He reckons that the former Indian international will know what needs to be done to put the national side at the very top.

“He will definitely be somebody who knows what to do. What he will deliver and not is something I cannot predict since I don’t have a crystal ball in my hand,” he commented.

“But, as far as his acumen is concerned, he is good. He has also been a good captain in the IPL, and he is a good strategist,” he added.

Raman suggested that rather than all the positive traits, it all comes down to how quickly the side can get settled under his coaching and whether the players are in agreement with his methods.

“But again, it’s all about things coming together when you are coaching a side and how quickly everybody (coaches) settles down with the boys and the boys with his ways of doing things. So, that’s where the key lies, generally,” he concluded.

The T20 World Cup 2024 will be the last assignment for Dravid with the BCCI yet to make an announcement on who will take over from the Indian legend.

The side will gear up once again for the T20 World Cup where they play Ireland in their opening game of the tournament at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York.

India had a lot of boxes ticked in their recent warm-up game against Bangladesh where they managed to crush their neighbours to take the win by 60 runs in New York. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh were the standout performers and will likely be given a spot in the starting 11 for the opening game.
