Mumbai: It’s party time for the markets as Sensex soared above 14,000 level on heavy demand pushed by FIIs and mutual funds.
Sensex surged by 73 points to close at a record high of 14,129.64 point on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The markets extended gains from Friday, as buying continued on back of firm global markets, and on resumption in FII-buying.
HDFC Bank was quoted at Rs 1,099.00 up 3.36 per cent, Tata Steel at Rs 482.35 up 3.20 per cent and Guj Ambuja Cem at Rs 145.00 up 2.84 per cent are to gainers on the Sensex.
SAIL at Rs 98.00 up 8.11 per cent, VSNL at Rs 465.00 up 6.65 per cent and Siemens at Rs 1,182.50 up 5.90 per cent are top gainers on the Nifty.
BHEL, Maruti Udyog, Hero Honda, BPCL, HPCL and MTNL are the top losers on the indices.
Most active shares on NSE are Reliance at Rs 1,369.15 (Volumes 25,82,838), IFCI at Rs 24.75 (Volumes 12,15,34,160) and TCS at Rs 1,342 (Volumes 20,18,913).
Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,368.60 up 2.13 per cent from its previous close of Rs 1,340.10.
Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,243.00 up 0.93 per cent from its previous close of Rs 2,222.35.
Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 299.25 down 1.61 per cent from its previous close of Rs 304.15.
