Thane city of Maharashtra recorded the sale of vehicles worth crores of rupees in 2023. Around 85 vehicles worth crores of rupees were registered between January 1 and December 31, 2023, in the Thane, Bhiwandi, and Mira Bhayander cities, according to a Mumbai Live report citing the data obtained from the Thane Sub-Regional Transport Department. As per the data, the most expensive motor belongs to the company McLaren, and it costs roughly around Rs 9 crore. It is further followed by Ferrari company cars, which cost around Rs 7,49,50,000 and Rs 6,98,92,000.
Reportedly, the buyers who own these expensive vehicles include businessmen and individuals associated with various political parties. The fascination for luxury vehicles has been recently fuelled by a massive construction boom in Thane and nearby areas, following the presence of large companies. While some individuals have bought the vehicles for personal use, others have also purchased them for professional use, thereby suggesting that the registration of these vehicles is just increasing.
Thane, housing notable figures from business, politics, and the film industry, is a hub of high-profile personalities. The city, along with sub-regional divisions like Thane, Bhiwandi, Mira Bhayander, and rural areas in the district, witnesses an annual registration of approximately 15,000–20,000 cars.
McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, and other luxury cars registered in Thane

As per the data obtained from the department, it is suggested that almost all luxury cars worth crores of rupees, including Mercedes and BMW, remain the most popular and have the most registrations. While most of them are registered in the names of businessmen and businesses, a few are also registered in the names of political figures and film industries.
The numbers were quite similar back in 2022 when there was again an increase in the number of luxury car registrations.
