Ella Emhoff, the stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, has responded to a derogatory comment made by JD Vance, the running mate of Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Ella is the daughter of Harris’s husband Doug Emhoff and his first wife Kerstin Mackin. In a 2021 interview, Trump’s VP pick Vance called Harris a “childless cat lady.” This remark resurfaced recently after President Joe Biden endorsed Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.
Ella Defending Kamala
Emhoff, 25, who refers to Kamala as ‘Momala,’ swiftly defended the US Vice President on her Instagram Stories, writing, “How can you be ‘childless’ when you have cutie pie kids like Cole and I?” She added, “I love my three parents.”
Kerstin Emhoff, Ella’s mother, also spoke out against Vance’s attacks on Harris, calling them “baseless.” In a statement to NBC News, she described Harris as “loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present,” adding, “I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.”
Ella, the daughter of Douglas Emhoff and Kerstin Emhoff, has been close to Harris since her father married her in 2014. Emhoff, a fashion student at Parsons, has gained international attention for her bold style and collaborations with top brands like Miu Miu, Balenciaga, and Louis Vuitton.
Ella recently faced controversy when she posted a link to a fundraiser for UNRWA, an organisation aiding Palestinian refugees, which led to backlash from UN Watch. Harris’s campaign has seen a surge in support since Biden’s endorsement, with her fundraising efforts raising over $126 million in just a few days.
The pro-Palestinian campaign has also seen a significant increase in volunteer sign-ups, with more than 100,000 individuals expressing interest in supporting Harris’s bid for the presidency.
