Over the years, technology has advanced spreading to various fields making our lives much easier. The change is all the more notable in digital spheres with newer inventions taking place every day. If you are a 90s kid, then chances are that you are not unaware of the Compact Disc-Read Only Memory (CD-ROM). They played a pivotal role in our lives, having ample storage. Microsoft Bookshelf, the company’s first piece of software, was launched in 1987. Walking down memory lane, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has recently shared a throwback picture when his team created a stunning “visual demonstration” of a CD-ROM.

“Thirty years ago, we wanted to show just how much information a single CD-ROM could hold. The team decided a visual demonstration was necessary!” read the caption of the photograph, dropped on Instagram. The picture captured Bill Gates, then a young man, sitting atop a huge stack of paper, almost as long as the trees in the background. He was secured with a harness and held a CD in his hands. Another piled-up bunch of paper was situated just beside him.

According to the official Microsoft website, the photograph clicked in 1994 was to demonstrate the amount of audio, text, and image information a CD could store. Bill Gates did not want to go into the technical details of the device and churned out an easier way to help the masses understand the power of CDs. “Instead of using the then unfamiliar measurement of 700 megabytes, he published a picture of himself suspended in the treetops above giant stacks of paper hundreds of feet the number of pages a CD can hold,” read the information on the website.

Social media users were quick to react to the now-viral snap. “Fantastic Bill (Gates). You changed the World and the mindset of the People,” lauded one individual. “Most explained picture ever!” asserted another. A third user suggested that it was “Time to recreate that again with the new petabit Drive capacity.”

Earlier, Bill Gates visited India to attend the pre-wedding festivities of Reliance Industries CEO Mukhesh Ambani’s younger son Anant Ambani and his fiance Radhika Merchant. A video of the Microsoft founder having tea at a roadside stall went instantly viral.

“In India, you can find innovation everywhere you turn—even in the preparation of a simple cup of tea!” read his Instagram caption.
