Tech entrepreneur Bryan Johnson, who is best known for his multi-million dollar “age reversing” wellness regime, has shared a video espousing the importance of good sleep. In the roughly 10 minute long video, he lists 10 tips for achieving good sleep. In his clip, the venture capitalist said that sleep is the most important part of one’s day. He criticised the “hustle culture” that normalises sacrificing sleep. His first tip for getting perfect sleep is to “identify as a professional sleeper”, which means making sleep your “number one priority”. The second point involves “having a consistent bedtime” and sticking to it. He shared that he goes to bed at 8.30 pm and wakes up at 5 am.
As for the third tip, he suggests, “having a wind-down routine”, which means avoiding anything that might make one alert or anxious such as thinking about an important decision or having an argument. Tip number four and five is to “eat early” and “avoid stimulants like alcohol or caffeine”.

The sixth point raised by the 46-year-old is to “regulate light”. He mentioned eliminating blue lights of gadget screens and using blackout curtains in the bedroom. The seventh point was about “maintaining ideal temperature” when one sleeps. The eighth tip was to “create a peaceful sleep environment”. The ninth point also dealt with regulating light. Bryan Johnson explained that one’s body should be trained in such a way that when it’s bright outside, one should feel energised and when it’s dark one should feel sleepy. His final tip was about “gathering sleep data” via his Whoop band and using it to best learn about one’s sleep patterns.
This video got over one lakh likes since it was shared on June 2. In a follow-up post, Bryan Johnson wrote that he sleeps on his sides. He explained, “We measured blood flow to/from my brain using ultrasound in various sleeping positions: stomach, back, left and right side. My left side had the best blood flow followed by my right. Stomach was worst and back was third.”

Another person said, “Watching this while eating a bowl of muesli at 2am in bed. I think I need to make several major changes.”

Someone else commented, “By the way – eating dinner early does not work for me. I have to eat a lot and be late if I want to sleep well. I don’t eat stuff that would upset my stomach of course. But if I weren’t full when I go to bed, I would have a hard time falling asleep. Probably not the only one.”

Many of the above mentioned tips shared by Bryan Johnson such as avoiding caffeine and having a peaceful sleep environment are scientifically proven to help people in getting good sleep.
