It’s a blend of Pat Cummins’ luck and the collective effort of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team that propelled them into the IPL 2024 finals with a commanding 36-run victory over the Rajasthan Royals in the Qualifier 2 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The celebrations kicked off early in the SRH camp. Kavya Maran, the franchise’s CEO and co-owner, was on her feet, clapping and cheering as the Rajasthan Royals crumbled, hugging her father before celebrating with other members in the SRH stand.
Naturally, social media erupted in celebration, filled with memes and jokes, marking SRH’s third finals appearance and their first in six years.

In the match, RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bowl first. Trent Boult (3-45) wreaked havoc on SRH’s top order, dismissing Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, and Aiden Markram inside the powerplay. All eyes then turned to Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen to steady the ship. They managed to provide some respite until Sandeep Sharma’s slower delivery ended their partnership. Head walked back with just 34 runs. Avesh Khan (3-27) and Sandeep Sharma (2-25) kept the pressure on SRH, with only Klaasen (50) and Shahbaz Ahmed (18) offering a counterattack. Ultimately, SRH posted a total of 175/9 in their 20 overs.
In response, Rajasthan Royals began their chase cautiously until Pat Cummins took control. The SRH skipper broke through by dismissing Tom Kohler-Cadmore, setting the stage for a fierce bowling attack. Four overs later, impact substitute Shahbaz Ahmed claimed the crucial wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal. RR’s batting lineup then crumbled like a house of cards. Sanju Samson (10), Riyan Parag (6), and Ravichandran Ashwin (0) succumbed to the Orange Army’s relentless assault. Shimron Hetmyer (4), a potential game-changer, was bowled clean by Abhishek Sharma.
Apart from a brave effort from young Dhruv Jurel, Rajasthan Royals had no significant fight-back. Rovman Powell, who could have supported Jurel, was taken out by Natarajan.
