In Shocking Video, Surat Landlord Brutally Attacks Woman Over 'Unpaid Rent'
The dispute reportedly escalated over vacating a leased property in the Parle Point neighbourhood.

A disturbing incident has come to light in Gujarat’s Surat, where a young girl was physically assaulted by her landlord for failing to pay two months’ rent. A video has gone viral on X that captures the tenant and landlord engaging in an altercation. The man can be seen brutally hitting the girl while gripping her collar as she screams to let go. The girl’s friend, who appears to have videotaped the entire episode, can be heard pleading the man to leave her friend. Since then, reportedly, they have both filed complaints against one another.

The social media post was captioned, “The problem of rent led to a scuffle. The landlord beat the girl. Photos of a scuffle with a Mumbai girl associated with event management go viral. Girl accused of not paying rent for two months.”

The date of the incident cannot be confirmed, however, the video was shared on July 8. It has since received over 5,000 views.

According to the Times of India (TOI), the dispute escalated over vacating a leased property in the Parle Point neighbourhood.

The Times of India has identified the owner in a video as Jayendra Manavawala. According to the report, the woman accused Manavawala of molestation after the encounter. Manavawala, on the other hand, filed a lawsuit against the woman after receiving an eye injury.

The report in TOI further stated that the woman and her companions were ordered to leave the rental property that Manavawala owned in the Radhe Nagar society.

When he visited his residence with an electrician on Sunday morning, he discovered that they had not left. An argument between them became sour when he questioned why they hadn’t moved out despite the lease having expired two days prior.

Both of them began attacking the other once the conversation turned ugly. Authorities informed TOI that Manavawala has been charged with assault with the “intent to outrage her modesty.”

They continued by saying that Manavawala had also been booked because of his hospitalisation for an eye injury. The woman claimed in her complaint that Manavawala had threatened to “undress her”.

Manavawala and three other people have been arrested.
