The village of Thari in Madhubani district is popular for preserving the language of Sanskrit.

India is a rich cultural reservoir known for its multitude of traditions and languages across its 28 states. One of the best qualities of our country is that it has preserved those beautiful cultures and some of the ancient languages. Today, we will talk about a village in Bihar, where Sanskrit is spoken as the main language. Local18 reports that the village Thari is located in the district of Madhubani in Bihar. The citizens of that village consider Sanskrit their primary language, which they speak during regular conversations. Sanskrit scholars from the Mithila region visit the village for 2 days, for a debate competition in Sanskrit.

In the Thari village, the residents belong to 12 varnas and most families are Brahmin. Since Sanskrit is their first language, many locals have mastered it so well that they are now teaching it in schools as well as universities. They made sure that the next generation, their children, stay connected with the language.

Their Sanskrit is so refined that the locals organise a state ceremony each year in the village. The event is a host to scholars from all Mithilanchal regions and the whole country, who come to participate. The days of March 16 and 17 are allotted to a debate in Sanskrit, where the scholars and all the Sanskrit speaking locals participate.

Not only their language, the lifestyle of the people is also very traditional, they have kept themselves connected with Sanatan culture. As they follow the traditional Mithila culture, their main garments are the dhoti, pag and dupatta. According to the villagers, those who appear in examinations like UPSC and BPSC opt for the subjects in the Sanskrit language.

The Sanskrit language is included in one of the three earliest documented ancient languages, while it is also believed to be the oldest language in the world. The first written Sanskrit was found in the Rigveda.
