Hotels typically provide a range of amenities for guests to use during their stay, including toiletries. However, not everything provided by the hotel is meant to be taken home. Experts advise on what items are acceptable to bring home and reveal lesser-known amenities that guests can request.
Holiday expert Mark Johnson suggests that guests can take toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion as they check out, as these are intended for single use only. However, guests should refrain from taking items stored in large bottles. In addition to toiletries, guests can also bring home items like leather-bound pads, pens, pencils, notebooks, packs of biscuits, coffee sachets, tea bags, creamers, sugar packets, dry cleaning bags, single-use slippers and sewing kits.
However, there are certain items that guests should not take home, including bedsheets, towels, blankets, pillows, irons, hangers and ironing boards. Chintan Dadhich, manager of Downtown Hotel in New York, reveals that guests can also request upgrades for their hotel stays. Many guests are unaware of this option and remain in the same room they booked. According to Dadhich, guests can request a room upgrade at no extra charge if a better room is available.
Travel experts Devon and Betsy Fata suggest booking corner rooms, as they tend to be larger. They also advise booking stays at new hotels, as they often offer luxurious rooms at lower costs in exchange for positive reviews.
Guests can take toiletries and certain other items from hotel rooms but should avoid taking larger items like bedding and ironing equipment. Additionally, guests should be aware of their ability to request room upgrades and consider booking stays at new hotels for potentially better accommodations at lower prices.
