Microsoft to discontinue support for Facebook chat, Google chat from Outlook.com in coming weeks
In the upcoming weeks, Microsoft will discontinue support for the popular chats in a bid to push its own Skype chatting and calling service.

New Delhi: Microsoft's email service-Outlook.com has sent an email to all its users that it was removing Facebook chat and Google chat support from its service.

The company said that in the upcoming weeks it will discontinue support for the popular chats in a bid to push its own Skype chatting and calling service.

The email stated that it was removing Google Talk integration due to 'Google's decision to discontinue the chat protocol used by Google Talk platform'. Google recently announced the termination of its Google Talk feature to drive more popularity towards its Google Hangouts chatting service.

A report in The Verge said that Microsoft did not reveal the reason for withdrawing support for Facebook chat feature within Outlook.com. However, the integration of both these chat services with the People feature in Outlook will remain unaffected by the decision to discontinue the chat options.

The email has further asked users to activate their Skype for Outlook.com by clicking the Messaging icon in the inbox header and add contacts in the Poeple page.

Microsoft's Google Talk support in Outlook.com was a highly requested feature shortly before the software maker introduced it in May 2013. However, the latest decision seems like a move similar to the killing of the Windows Live Messenger service back in late 2012.

What's your reaction?
