Hyderabad: The war of words between TRS and TDP intensified on Thursday with the former attacking the Chandrababu Naidu-led party over the Telangana issue.

Taking exception to the sharp criticism by TDP leaders at a pro-Telangana meeting at Karimnagar on Wednesday, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao's son and MLA KT Rama Rao on Thursday alleged that the TDP lacked sincerity towards the cause of separate statehood.

"Suspended TDP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy himself had said that it was Naidu who obstructed the formation of Telangana after the Centre made the announcement on December 9, 2009. TDP does not have a single and clear stand on the Telangana issue," he told reporters in Hyderabad.

"TDP leaders said Naidu would give a letter in support of Telangana if Sonia Gandhi accepted separate Telangana demand. We know that Sonia Gandhi would not open her mouth. But why don't you pass a pro-Telangana resolution?"

Referring to the obstructions caused by the TRS workers when TDP leaders were on their way to Karimnagar on Wednesday, Rama Rao claimed that activists of his party were provoked. TRS workers had thrown stones and eggs at the TDP convoy.

Hitting out at TDP MLA A Revant Reddy, who was reportedly seen on TV channels carrying a rifle, Rama Rao demanded that the police cancel his gun licence and arrest him.

Speaking at the Karimnagar meeting on Wednesday, Revant Reddy and other TDP leaders had alleged that TRS had used the Telangana issue only for political gains.
