Jayanthy, wife of K V Thangkabalu, is a Congress nominee from the Mylapore constituency.

Chennai: Jayanthy, wife of TNCC president K V Thangkabalu and party nominee from the Mylapore constituency for the April 13 Tamil Nadu assembly polls, is a crorepati as she owns around Rs 4.5 crore worth movable and immovable assets.

The 46 year-old postgraduate in Tamil literature, facing flak from her own party for her candidature, also has loans and liabilities to the tune of Rs 1.67 crore, according to the affidavit submitted alongwith her nomination papers.

A diploma holder in Film Editing, Jayanthy's annual income according to the latest Income-Tax returns were Rs 40.25 lakh while that of her husband was Rs 45.39 lakh. She owns immovable assets including housing plot and land worth Rs 1.71 crore valued according to the current market value.

She owns two cars valued at a little over Rs 15 lakh and has gold and silver jewels worth Rs 17.96 lakh, the affidavit said. Jayanthy had no criminal cases pending against her nor had she been convicted by any court, she said in her affidavit.

A virtually new face to electoral politics, Jayanthy's candidature to Mylapore in Chennai had come under fire from different sections of the state unit of Congress.

Different factions have been protesting against her nomination and even burnt effigies of her spouse Thangkabalu. A group of Mahila Congress workers tried to gate-crash her house on Friday which was thwarted by police.
