HYDERABAD: Whatever the outcome of the by-elections in six Assembly constituencies in Telangana on March 18 might be, the response to Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu’s roadshows is infusing new life into the yellow party.Whether the TDP candidates will win or lose, party cadre is happy on two counts: that TDP supremo is able to move freely in the region and that the large crowds waiting for Naidu and greeting him. This is a complete change of situation from the first bypolls held for 12 Assembly seats in Telangana in 2010 when the party leaders and candidates were unable even to campaign.Naidu, along with a battery of senior leaders, left for Babli in Maharashtra to protest against construction of a dam there and was arrested in July 2010.By the time they were released, the byelection campaigning was over. This time, Naidu is very much campaigning in the region. There are no obstructions, even to Naidu’s abusive comments on TRS chief Chadrasekhara Rao.“The bypoll results are not important. But, the change in mood of the people is important to note. We are happy that Naidu’s road-shows proved that TDP is still a force to reckon with in Telangana,” a party leader said. Addressing a huge meeting at Kamareddy, Naidu blasted TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao once again.“Rao, as Union labour minister, was responsible for making the skull symbol on beedi packs compulsory. The TDP fought against it and came to the rescue of beedi workers,” Naidu said and added that Rao was after votes, and was not interested in Telangana. Naidu promised a special package for Gulf victims, Rs 1,000 dole to unemployed youths, fee reimbursement for BC students and 9n hour power supply to farmer Stones Hurled AT NaiduKAMAREDDY: Some TRS activists threw footwear and stones at TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s convoy during his election tour at Fareedpet in Nizamabad district on Sunday. While Naidu was speaking at a meeting, a few TRS workers hurled stones and shouted Jai Telangana slogans.
