New Delhi: Ahead of the crucial Monsoon session of Parliament, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu strongly dismissed any question of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's resignation in the controversy involving former Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi.

"No question of External Affairs Minister resigning, no wrong has been done morally or legally. She is one of the best performing ministers," Naidu said.

Swaraj triggered a controversy by admitting to getting a no objection to Lalit Modi's request to travel out of the United Kingdom for his wife's treatment. The controversy not only left the Narendra Modi government red-faced but also snowballed with the opposition alleging a nexus between India's who's who and the disgraced cricket czar.

While Sushma claimed that it was a 'humanitarian act', opposition leaders accused her of helping Modi because of her family ties as both her husband and daughter are lawyers for the former IPL chief's case.

Speaking about the contentious Land Acquisition Bill, Naidu said he was confident about the passage of the Bill in this session. He also said that the government wants the bill to be approved at the earliest.

"I am confident of the passage of the Land Bill. I won't comment on the recommendations of the Joint Committee. The government wants the bill to be approved at the earliest," he said.

With Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi leading the protest against the Land Bill, it will be difficult to bring opposition on board. The government will be successful in getting the Bill passed in Lok Sabha but in Rajya Sabha, where it does not have the required number, it will be a tough task.

Reaching out to the Opposition to let the House function, Naidu added "I want the Opposition to cooperate in the functioning of the House. Let's discuss and debate."
