Thiruvananthapuram: Solar scam accused Saritha Nair has been released on bail after about eight months in jail. She was accused in about 31 cases and was arrested in June 2013.
Saritha along with her partner Biju Radhakrishnan allegedly defrauded people by offering solar energy solutions, collected money and failed on their promises. The scam was to the tune of Rs 10 crore.
Solar scam had the political temperatures in Kerala rising as some of the personal staff of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy were said to be constantly in touch with Saritha over phone. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) had demanded Oommen Chandy's resignation and even held a day and night secretariat siege.
After being released from the Attakulangara jail in Thiruvananthapuram, Saritha said that she will meet the media in a couple of days. What Saritha has to say will be politically important as there were allegations earlier that some parts of what she said before the magistrate were later avoided in her written statement.
Her mother Indira had earlier alleged that a prominent United Democratic Front leader had sabotaged the actual statement of Saritha and if the actual statement came out three to four MLAs would be forced to quit.
