Bangalore: Eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani has called former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa an honest man.
Releasing a book 'Yeddyurappa - his vision and passion', Jethmalani said "The Karnataka High Court has rejected Justice N Santosh Hegde's report on illegal mining. Nobody is talking about it now. Yeddyurappa has a clean image".
Jethmalani was in Bangalore to release the book written by a former 'The Hindu' journalist C M Ramachandra. Earlier, Jethmalani had represented Yeddyurappa in corruption related cases in the Supreme Court. In the same function, Jethmalani attacked the Congress for not bringing the black money stashed in foreign banks back to India.
Yeddyurappa is still facing a CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) inquiry into his alleged corruption and recently the Supreme Court has dismissed his plea seeking relief.
Yeddyurappa was forced to quit as the Karnataka CM after his name figured in the mining scam report submitted by the then Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde in July 2011. Yeddyurappa was arrested in a different cases in October 2011 and was sent to jail for three weeks.
The BJP had campaigned against Yeddyurappa's corruption in the 2013 Karnataka Assembly polls.
He returned to the BJP in January 2014 to lead the party in the Lok Sabha elections. Yeddyurappa is expected to contest from Shimoga in the general elections.
Yeddyurappa's name prominently figures in the list of India's most corrupt political leaders prepared by the AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.
