New Delhi: Former union minister Natwar Singh continues to breathe fire on Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her family. Singh, who resigned from the UPA-I government in 2005 in the wake of the Iraqi food-for-oil scam, lashed out at Sonia for 'treating' him in the manner that she apparently did.
In an exclusive interview to Network18 the estranged Gandhi-Nehru loyalist said, "Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru would never treat me like this. Our culture says people who are older to you, you respect them and not make fun of them."
The book which is yet to be published is already in the headlines for Singh's claims about the Congress party and its high commands.
A close confidante of the Gandhis during the Nehru-Indira era, Singh said that he has refrained from writing about the personal lives of Sonia, Rahul Gandhi when he could very well have made some revelations.
He also refuted reports of Sonia and daughter Priyanka Gandhi meeting him in connection with the content in his 410-page autobiography. He pleaded that only one of the chapters was based on Sonia Gandhi and that his entire book did not revolve around the UPA Chairperson.
Singh, however, added that he was eagerly waiting for the book by Sonia Gandhi as the rest of the country. "I am glad that Sonia Gandhi wants to write a book. She is a historic personality. I will wait for the book, so will the rest of the country," he said.
Speaking on Congress's deafening defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, Singh held the party leadership responsible for its humiliating performance. "We could not even imagine Congress getting 44 seats. Who is responsible for 44 seats? It i the top leaders of Congress. Antony has not named Rahul and Sonia in his report."
