Modi attacks Congress over Army pension scheme, farmer suicides
Narendra Modi was addressing a rally in Maharashtra where a spate of farmer suicides has hit the government hard.

New Delhi: Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate, on Thursday hit out at Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for making false promises.

"The One Rank One Pension was a long standing demand of serving as well as retired officers. Numerous letters were written to the Prime Minister, the President. But the government did not do anything. The promises of the Congress are false. Today in Himachal Pradesh, they again lied. They have no answers on the beheading of soldiers," Modi said.

Modi, who was addressing a rally in Maharashtra's Vidarbha also attacked the state government on the spate of farmer suicides after the massive crop damage.

"More farmers have died due to suicide. What has the Congress given to the country? It is because of the policies of the government that the farmers are committing suicide. If our farmer is ruined, then how will we feed our stomachs? But the government is sleeping," Modi said.

Modi also suggested a "5F Formula" to revive cotton farming which he said was in a poor state due to the government ban on cotton exports.

"Why did the PM put a ban on cotton exports? For whom? Cotton farmers suffered a loss of Rs 7,000 crore due to the ban on exports," Modi said. "We need the 5F formula to help the cotton farmers - Farm, Fibre, Fabric, Fashion and Foreign," he added.
