Karnataka IT minister booked in forgery case
Karnakata Lokayukta on Thursday filed an FIR against Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu in a land scam case.

Bangalore: Karnakata Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde on Thursday filed an FIR against state Information Technology Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu for forgery. The FIR also names Katta's wife Saubhagya and son Katta Jagadish as the co-accused.

The FIR has been filed under Indian Penal Code sections 419 (cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 465 (forgery) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record).

The Anti-Corruption Act has also been slapped against Katta family. The minister's son Katta Jagadish, who is a corporator, is accused of making wrongful claims and selling land of Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) which he never owned and claimed compensation.

Katta Jagadish's company was used as a front for the land dealings.

The Lokayukta had on Wednesday feared that witnesses may be "influenced" and "threatened" in the KIADB case in which Jagdish Katta has been arrested. Jagdish Katta was arrested on Tuesday for trying to influence a witness in a case pertaining to irregularities in payment of compensation to land owners by KIADB.

The minister's wife had bought 13 acres of land for Rs 9 lakh, which the KIADB acquired for Rs 4 crore, while Jagdish had bought around one half acre of land for a paltry sum, which was acquired by KIADB for over Rs 40 lakh, he said.

Hegde said the scam involved forging of documents and selling it to 'powerful' persons who in turn sold it to KIADB, paying compensation to bogus owners and acquiring land that had not been notified for the same.
