A new politburo and a central committee was also elected on Monday, according to Karat.

Kozhikode: Prakash Karat was on Monday re-elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).

Karat, 68, has headed the CPI-M since 2005.

He said a new politburo and a central committee was also elected on Monday.
