New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar is all set to break the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state following the elevation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Narendra Singh, Bihar Agriculture Minister and a close aide of Nitish, said that the NDA would split is just a few days in the state.
While targeting Narendra Modi, Narendra said that BJP has decided to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections led by a man who was allegedly involved in the 2002 Gujarat riots. He clearly said that the JD(U) will not be a part of the in NDA if Modi is the face of the BJP.
"We can't accept a rioter," said Singh.
Singh said that the JD(U) will finalise its strategy and take a decision on June 15 when all party MLAs. MLCs and other leaders will meet in Patna. While attacking Modi and the BJP he said that the JD(U) can never accept a tainted leader. Another JD(U) leader Shivanand Tiwari said that the BJP should not insult Sardar Patel.
In a response BJP MP Uday Pratap Singh said that Narendra Singh's words are extremely offensive and his party will not accept such statements. He added that it is up to the JD(U) to remain in the NDA but the BJP will not take back its decision on Modi.
The decision and announcement on the JD(U) pulling out of the NDA could be made after the party executive meet likely on Saturday when Nitish Kumar returns from his Seva Yatra. Sources say Nitish Kumar is planning to create a federal front of three Chief Ministers, that of Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar.
Sources say it is the demand for a special category status that unites them. In fact, sources add that Nitish Kumar has already extended support to the BJD rally in Delhi for a special status to Odisha. Nitish has also sent his emissary JD(U) MP KC Tyagi to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata.
JD(U) sources say in case the three Chief Ministers come together, they can negotiate with either of the two main parties - the BJP or the Congress in government formation.
