Omar Abdullah said both internal and external dimensions of the Kashmir issue required equal focus.

Srinagar: Asserting gun or economic measures cannot solve political issues, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was on Tuesday hopeful that the dialogue between India and Pakistan will yield results addressing issues politically in an atmosphere of peace and amity.

In his Independence Day message to the people, the Chief Minister said both internal and external dimensions of the Kashmir issue required equal focus.

Omar was hopeful that the dialogue process restarted between India and Pakistan will yield results.

He expressed the confidence that while discussing the major issues, the two countries will devote attention to resolving smaller issues like converting Cross LoC Trade into normal trade from the present barter status.

He was also hopeful that the visa regime would be made easy and the implementation of a rehabilitation policy for youth would be taken up in the upcoming Foreign Ministers Conference.

In an apparent reference to the separatists, Omar said the leaders with different political view points should take advantage of the current favourable political scenario and come to the discussion table and contribute to the secure and bright future of the state and its people.

Listing elimination of violence, unemployment crisis, curbing corruption and resolving the electricity deficiency as four major concerns of his government, he said there has been visible improvement in the peace situation since the last one and half years.

He said the graph of violence was decreasing and his government had reduced the presence of security forces. "Wehave removed various bunkers in Srinagar and similar action will follow in other places with the improvement of the situation and restoration of peace.
