If people vote on the basis of Modi wave, then god save India: Arvinder Singh Lovely

New Delhi: As Delhi heads towards fresh elections after all the three major parties - Bharatiya Janata Party, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress - claimed that they do not have the numbers to form the government, Congress MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely said that his party had been demanding repolls for a long time.

"As there was no single largest party ready to form the government, repolls were the only option. We have been demanding it and dissolution of Delhi Assembly for a long time," said Lovely.

While former chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who had ruled the national capital for 15 years, has already said that she is no more interested in Delhi politics, Lovely said that Congress has many leaders.

When asked who would represent Delhi in the polls, Lovely said, "Sheila Dikshit was never the face of Delhi. She was just the chief minister. There are many leaders and party will take the decision at the right time. The central leadership will lead the party."

Even though the Congress faced a drubbing in the Lok Sabha elections and the recent Haryana and Maharashtra Assembly elections, Lovely said it will not be same in Delhi.

"Delhi has been without a government for a year and there is no anti-incumbency against Congress. People have already witnessed so many problems - price rise, inflation, increase in water and power bills, security issue and are smart enough to judge."

On the question of Modi wave due to which the BJP swept Haryana, Lovely said, "Given the present situation, if people vote on the basis of Modi wave, then god should save Delhi and India."

In the infamous case of businessman and son-in-law of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi Robert Vadra's spat with a journalist, Lovely said, "The media should not interfere much in the lives of people. We politicians are there to answer all the questions."

Vadra lost his cool at an event and pushed away reporter's mic when questioned about his alleged involvement in Haryana land scams.
