Narendra Modi on Sunday took oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term at a swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Following Modi, senior leaders Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman and S Jaishankar also took oath as Cabinet ministers in the NDA government. However, in a surprise move, several new faces were included in the Modi Cabinet 3.0.
With BJP’s numbers dropping below the majority mark following the June 4 results, it now relies on its NDA allies to cross the magic figure of 272. It is, therefore, that the BJP is trying to strike a balance with its alliance partners over ministerial berths.
Here’s a List Of Fresh Faces In Modi 3.0:
ML Khattar (BJP)
Former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday took oath as the Union minister in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre. In March this year, in a surprise move, the party replaced Khattar with Nayab Singh Saini for the CM’s post with the Assembly elections just a few months away.
Khattar was fielded from the Karnal constituency in the recent Lok Sabha elections and he won by an impressive margin of 2,32,577 votes.
HD Kumaraswamy (JDS)
The inclusion of former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy in the Modi Cabinet 3.0 was widely anticipated due to the JD(S) alliance with the BJP. The BJP and JD(S) combined emerged victorious in 19 constituencies in the state in 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP won 17 seats, while the JD(S) secured victory in two constituencies.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan (BJP)
Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took oath as the Union minister in the Modi government’s third term. Chouhan won from Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency by a whopping 8,21,408 votes, defeating his Congress rival Pratap Bhanu Sharma.
Jayant Choudhary (RLD)
In the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections, Jayant Chaudhary-led RLD won two seats in Uttar Pradesh, a state where the BJP witnessed its worst poll performance. Choudhary on Sunday sworn-in as the member of Modi Cabinet.
Lalan Singh (JDU)
The 69-year-old sworn-in as Union Cabinet minister in the new government. The four-term MP is a former national president of the JD(U). He is a close aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and was mentored by former CM and socialist stalwart Karpoori Thakur.
Jitan Ram Manjhi (HAM)
Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) chief and former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi took oath as a Union Minister in the third Narendra Modi-led government. Earlier today, he posted on X: “Will be a part of the programme at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. There is good news for the people of Gaya and Bihar.”
Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu (TDP)
The 36-year-old TDP leader took oath as the minister on Sunday. With this, he is said to become the youngest minister in the new Cabinet. He is a three-time MP from Srikakulam Lok Sabha constituency. He is the national general secretary of the TDP.
Chirag Paswan (LJP)
Lok Jan Shakti party leader Chirag Paswan took oath as the member of Cabinet in NDA government’s third term. He won from Bihar’s Hajipur. Chirag is the son of former minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar (BJP)
BJP national general secretary Bandi Sanjay Kumar thanked Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi and people of Karimnagar Parliamentary Constituency on Sunday for his appointment as Minister of State in NDA Cabinet.
In a post on ‘X’, he said, “From streets of Karimnagar to being recommended for appointment as Minister of State in the Council of Ministers – As I write this, I cannot express enough on how grateful I am to people of Karimnagar Parliamentary Constituency, BJP president Shri JP Nadda ji, BJP Telangana Leaders, karyakarthas and most importantly Shri Narendra Modi ji.”
Ram Nath Thakur (JDU)
Janata Dal (United) leader Ram Nath Thakur, the son of Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur, was inducted into the third Narendra Modi government’s Cabinet. Thakur, considered close to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is a two-time Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar. He has been a parliamentarian since 2014.
Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani (TDP)
Telugu Desam Party’s Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, who is the richest candidate to win the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, will be among the Union Council of Ministers.
Suresh Gopi (BJP)
The actor-turned-politician is one of BJP’s star performers this election season and was inducted as the Minister of State in the Narendra Modi-led Cabinet. The Malayalam cinema legend helped the saffron party open its account in the Kerala and became the party’s first-ever MP from the southern state. He won from Thrissur constituency seat.
Pratap Rao Jadhav (Shiv Sena)
Buldhana MP Prataprao Jadhav on Sunday joined Modi Cabinet and took oath as the member of Cabinet. Jadhav is a four-term MP and three-term MLA in the state. He was also a minister in the first Shiv Sena-BJP government between 1995-99.
V Somanna (BJP)
BJP leader V Somanna on Sunday joined the Narendra Modi-headed Cabinet. Somanna, a Lok Sabha member from Tumakuru, earlier served as minister in Karnataka in different dispensations.
Kirti Vardhan Singh (BJP)
Kirti Vardhan Singh, who has been elected as BJP MP from Gonda Lok Sabha seat for the third consecutive time, will also become a part of the Union Cabinet. He was administered the oath of the post of Minister of State.
Kamlesh Paswan (BJP)
Among those who have become ministers for the first time in the Narendra Modi government 3.0 is Kamlesh Paswan, who was elected for the fourth time from UP’s Bansgaon (reserved) parliamentary seat. He sworn-in as a Minister of State on Sunday.
Satish Chandra Dubey (BJP)
Satish Chandra Dubey on Sunday took oath as the Minister of State for the first time in Modi government. Dubey is currently a Rajya Sabha MP. He has been a Lok Sabha MP from Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha constituency from 2014 to 2019. After his ticket was cut in 2019, the BJP high command sent him to the Rajya Sabha.
Sukanta Majumdar (BJP)
BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar will represent as a Minister of State in the Modi Cabinet 3.0. He won the Belurghat Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal.
Raksha Khadse (BJP)
Raksha Khadse, daughter-in-law of former BJP leader Eknath Khadse, is likely to be sworn in as a minister today in Modi Cabinet 3.0. She is likely to be one of the few women MPs who is expected to make it to the Cabinet. She is a leader from Maharashtra and contested from the Raver constituency.
Ravneet Singh Bittu (BJP)
Ravneet Singh Bittu on Sunday announced that he will represent as a Minister of State in the NDA Cabinet. The development came despite his loss from the Ludhiana seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
Ajay Tamta (BJP)
Three-time Almora MP Ajay Tamta on Sunday became a Minister of State in the Narendra Modi government. Before his tenure in the Lok Sabha, Ajay Tamta served two terms as a member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. From 2007 to 2008, he held the position of Minister of State in the Uttarakhand government and was promoted to cabinet minister in 2008.
Jitin Prasada (BJP)
Jitin Prasada, a sitting minister in the Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath, is set to become a Union Minister in the new Cabinet. He won from the Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency defeating Samajwadi Party’s Bhagwat Saran Gangwar. Prasada was once considered close to senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He quit the Congress in 2021.
Harsh Malhotra (BJP)
Malhotra, the first-time MP is expected to find a place in the Cabinet. He won the Jamnapaar east Delhi seat against Aam Aadmi Party’s Kuldeep Kumar.
Annapurna Devi (BJP)
BJP’s Annapurna Devi was inducted in the Modi Cabinet today. She was a prominent candidate from the Koderma constituency in Jharkhand.
Sanjay Seth (BJP)
BJP leader from Jharkhand, Sanjay Seth on Sunday took oath as the Minister of State in the Narendra Modi-led Cabinet.
Durgadas Uikey (BJP)
Durgadas Uike, who was elected MP for the second time from Betul Lok Sabha seat of Madhya Pradesh, has taken oath as a Minister of State in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tribal leader Uike was a government teacher before entering politics.
