Don't just criticise, ditch UPA over price hike: BJP
BJP's week-long nationwide agitation against the diesel, LPG price hikes will begin from Saturday.

Mumbai: BJP on Friday asked the UPA allies to withdraw their support to the Central Government on the issue of diesel price hike, rather than making "formal statements" of criticism.

Addressing a press conference, BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said allies within and outside the government should not make just formal statements criticising the government.

"If they are serious, they should roll back their support to the government," he said. Indulging in "token opposition" for the sake of being seen in the opposition ranks was not enough, Naqvi said, adding that UPA allies should realise that the Government was "a sinking ship" and they needed to reconsider their support.

Claiming that the country was headed for mid-term polls, Naqvi said BJP's week-long nationwide agitation against the diesel, LPG price hikes will begin from tomorrow. "The party will chalk out a more aggressive nationwide agitation on price hikes and scams of the UPA at its three-day National Executive and National Council in Haryana from September 26," he said.

UPA government was more concerned about foreign companies and credit rating agencies than about the people, he said. Taking a swipe at Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, Naqvi said he was seen doing "photo shoots" in the homes of the poor, but was silent when the country was grappling with "burning issues like price rise and scandals."
