Thanjavur: Raising the Cauvery water issue in the heart of delta region, where farmers' livelihood depends on the inter-state river, AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa on Monday accused DMK government of doing nothing to get the final award of the tribunal implemented despite being a partner of UPA.

Though the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal submitted its final award in 2007, the Congress-led UPA did not take any step to notify it in the gazette and the DMK also did not press it, she said addressing election meetings in Kumbakonam

and Thanjavur.

At both the towns, she focused on the Cauvery issue and asserted that if her party was voted to power she would ensure that Tamil Nadu got its share of water. "We will take measures to implement the order and take appropriate steps in getting water for Tamil Nadu," she said. She also said the DMK by the 2G spectrum scam had brought disrepute to the Tamils and Tamil Nadu. "This is the biggest scam of the DMK," she alleged.

Claiming that DMK men had acquired more than 1,000 acres of land from poor people in Perambalur, the home town of former telecom minister A Raja, at cheap rate and was sold to industrialists at high price, she said AIADMK if voted to

power would retrieve these lands and restore them back to the poor.
