Chennai: DMK chief Karunanidhi has slammed Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's meeting with the AIADMK chief and former chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday. In a statement he said "Is it proper for a Union minister to meet a convicted person? I am reminded of the saying "cat is out of the bag". Jaitley meets Jayalalithaa when his ministry is dealing with her out of court settlement in Income Tax cases. Law minister's meeting Jayalalithaa ahead of Assets case verdict raised controversy. Law minister had also visited Bangalore where the verdict was to be given".
The ruling BJP which is facing shortage of numbers in the Rajya Sabha is depending on the AIADMK help which has 12 MPs. In Lok Sabha the BJP has given Deputy Speaker post to the AIADMK.
Jayalalithaa was convicted by a Special Court in Bengaluru in last September. She was sent to jail and came out of bail.
