Dadri: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday met the family of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was beaten to death by a mob earlier this week over rumours that his family stored and consumed beef. The leader also met a few of the women residents in Bisara village. He was accompanied by senior leaders Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh.
Earlier, Kejriwal was stopped from entering Basera village in Dadri, on the outskirts of Delhi, where he had gone to meet the family of Mohammad Ikhlaq.
Accompanied by Aam Aadmi Party leaders Sanjay Singh and Kumar Vishwas, Kejriwal was taken to a government guest-house. Police said they had not stopped the Chief Minister but 'advised' him against visiting the village for his own safety.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi and local lawmaker Mahesh Sharma of the BJP visited the village on Friday.
The 50-year-old Mohammad Ikhlaq was beaten to death by a mob in Dadri on the outskirts of Delhi on Monday night. He and his 22-year-old son were dragged from their house by around 100 villagers and beaten with bricks. Ikhlaq's son is critical.
