Chennai: The CPI(M)on Saturday said the State Secretariat of the party would meet again on March 19 if the talks with AIADMK on seat-sharing remain unsatisfactory.
CPI(M) is an ally of the main Opposition party AIADMK, led by its Chief J Jayalalithaa.
"We want 18 seats. But they (AIADMK) are willing to give only 11. We rejected the offer. The Working Committee of the party will continue the talks if they remain unsatisfactory," CPM State Secretary G Ramakrishnan told reporters here.
He said the State Committee had empowered the party's State Secretariat to reach an agreement with AIADMK.
CPI(M) Central Committee member T K Rangarajan, however, rubbished reports that they were not happy with AIADMK.
"Our association with them is very cordial. We expressed our unhappiness only over the number of seats offered to us", he said.
Earlier in the day, the CPI(M) held its State Committee meeting at their party office here. No decision reached yet on Cong constituencies in Chennai on March 12 .
The talks to identify the seats to be contested by Congress in alliance with DMK for Tamil Nadu assembly polls remained inconclusive on Saturday with the 5-member Congress committee, supposed to wrap up the deal, not turning
up at the ruling party headquarters on Saturday.
Four round of talks held in the past two days remained inconclusive.
Congress sources said the talks could not be completed as there were differences over some constituencies.
While Congress would get the 48 seats it had contested in the last elections, discussions were on to decide the remaining 15 seats, the sources said.
The DMK election committee panel headed by Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin was busy since morning conducting interviews with the party's prospective candidates for the fifth consecutive day.
